Subject: Deteriorating marcite

Question
My 20000 gallon inground marcite pool of 18 years has started losing "patches" of marcite, and now you can see the concrete in those patches.  They are on all surfaces of the pool, but mainly on the bottom, both shallow and deep.  What is causing these and is it normal for a pool of this age.  The chemicals have been very stable for many years, checked by me and the pool stores.  Thank you for any advice.

Answer
Mark:

Proper water chemistry (chlorine, ph, alkalinity, water hardness and cyanuric acid readings) will help prolong the life of plaster but it will not make it last forever.  You have certainly gotten your monies worth.

It is time to new your pool resurfaced.

Good luck,
Craig
