Subject: Main Drain

Question
My main drain line evidently is broken somewhere, when I open the valve to it the pump never primes, and is always full of air. Do I have to use that? Can I get by with just the skimmers? Also when I have just the skimmers valve open, the vacuum gauge fluctuates rapidly, 5-15 up and down up and down, what is the cause of this?

Answer
Sure you can get by with 1 skimmer. Can you force water from pump to main drain with a garden hose to see if you can get water their? Can you run on 1 skimmer by valving one off? This pressure oscillation can be air.Does the pump filter basket stay full of water?Or is their air?Lynn
