Subject: backwash valve

Question
I'm very new to maintaining a pool I've had trouble keeping it from turning green I take the water sample weekly to pool supply house always ad accordingly but for some reason I keep getting algae sometimes green or brown. I have cleaned filters run filter non stop and just recently in researching all this I heard the term backwashing I only see one location of a valve however it doesn't read on or off. How will I know if It's backwashing or filtrating! thank you for your help!

Answer
If you have filters you don't have backwash. If you check chlorine level or whatever sanitizer your using every other day and keep your water chemistry up I don't see how your getting algae.Like I tell everybody, toward sundown use a regular type shock[not one of those swim immediately ones or 20 minute types].Double shock your pool.Put all vac equipment in shallow end of pool.run filter for 3 hours.Shut off filter, vac in the morning. If water is not clear add coagulant[follow directions on bottle].If sides of pool are still slimy repeat.Add algaecide every 2 weeks in warm weather, keep water up chemically.Keep filters clean.Really if you look at your pool daily[walk around look at filter and pump, check chemicals, every other day[a 1 minute job with those check strips]vac every 3 days at most, its really not that much to take care of a pool.I spend about 1 to 1.5 hours a week on my pool.Lynn
