Question I have pac fab (pentair) 6 position multiport valves for pool and spa. Every time I
backwash they continue to leak to the waste line and I need to reassemble them
in the filter position to stop the leak. The spider valve always appears to be
correctly seated. I have tried new spider gaskets, gluing in the spider gasket,
and even replaced the entire handle unit. Any suggestions? thanks, bob
Answer bob:
This is very common. I try to replace spider gaskets by adhering it onto the base of the valve body with silicon caulk allowing it to dry overnight before reassembling.
It is also a good idea to install a valve on the waste line. Only open the valve when you backwash and then return it to the close position.
The cause of a leaking gasket can be: 1) improper water chemistry. 2) its too old 3) your pump is oversized for your filter. 4) the gasket lifts up. regardless... a new valve will solve this problem.
