Subject: swimming pool chlorine problem

Question
I cannot keep chlorine in my pool. I put in 8 bags of shock and 2 days later I had 0 chlorine .  I then put in 4 bags of shock plus 2 boxes of a ph balancer and 2 days later I had 0 chlorine.  What is wrong with my pool.  The water has never been cloudy and no algae  I did all this on the recomendation of the pool company

Answer
I'm not sure what type of shock you used but shock is made to raise chlorine fast and return to normal a couple days later if water is exposed to light and chemicals are correct. If theirs no sunshine or pool is covered it can last days to months.Low PH which is acidic water can shorten time it will last. You need to balance your water I'm not sure how much of what chemical you need. Then you need to add regular chlorine to keep water at the proper level.Additional chemicals should be needed weekly at most, depending on rain or adding of water.Lynn
