Question QUESTION: My husband replaced the valve on the top of our hayward sand filter, and ever since then, the filter has been spitting quite a bit of sand into our pool. The water is cloudy also. Is the filter broken? Can it be fixed if it is broken?
ANSWER: I think the spider gasket might have rolled.Lynn

QUESTION: Would you please elaborate? Is this a fixable problem? If it is, what do we need to do to fix it? Thank You.
Answer Theirs a gasket under the valve head[you should have seen it when you removed the valve].It sometimes has a tendency to move. They use a sealant to hold it in place, replace it if it seems damaged. Also in the filter look for damaged vertical standpipe or laterals.Look under "sand filter parts for pools" online to see these parts. If water output seems normal[good pressure at outlet in pool]no air bubbles, good suction at skimmer,no water leaks ,nothing would appear broken.Sorry for the short answer previously.Lynn
