Question
Greetings,

One of two returns going into an in ground pool is leaking air when activated.  The pool is loosing water until it goes below the jet.  Would the pump (1.5 HP)be damaged if one of the two jets was capped leaving only one outlet?  The outlet that would be active is on the far side of the pool about 50 feet from the pump, the one that would be capped is on the near side of the pool about 15 feet from the pump.  Otherwise is the better solution to cap the return when the pump is off and then remove the cap during the pump hours?

Answer
If air is getting into the system it would be at or before the pump, any leak after the pump would just leak water. The leak is right at the line where the water drops to.You would need to cap both ends if you think the leak is in that near jet.Be sure air is not from your O-ring at the pump basket or pump gasket itself or any connection their about. The pump would not be hurt with 1 jet activated.Lynn
