Subject: Pool light blows GFCI
Question For the first time ever (lived here 10 years), my in ground pool light blew the GFCI. It trips it every time. A very small fan does not trip an outlet on the same circuit. When I bypass the GFCI, the light comes on fine and there is no shock experienced when touching the water. I replaced the GFCI with another one with the same outcome. Note:The box for the "new" GFCI had been opened, so I'm suspicious that the "new" GFCI may not be working properly. Suggestions? I'm going to buy another new one, in a sealed package, and try it. If it still does it, now what?
Answer A GFI work on thousandths of a amp.A human could never feel this current.Very little moisture will trip your GFI.If the light load works and if you push the test button and it trips and resets I'm sure your GFI is OK.Look for moisture or bad wire possibly bare or at the connection or the fixture connections.Lynn
