Swimming Pool & Spa Construction & Maintenance - Closing a fibreglass pool

Expert: roger - 10/31/2009

Question
Hi.  We had a company close our fibre glass pool but I still worry if there is enough water in the pool.  The water level was lowered in order to blow out the lines but I'm wondering if we should add more water to the pool (even though the cover is now on) to ensure there's enough weight in the pool?

Answer
As long as you have a main drain with a functional hydrostatic valve your ok. But being a fiberglass pool you can add some water. To me its a shame to drain and add water every year. I have a theory of a way to close a pool without draining. The perfect pool could be made with brass manholes over returns and behind skimmers. Anyhow I think I have a solution for next year add the water you want.
