Question Looks like I have to install some sort of groundwater removal system. After days of rain I observed my liner floating out about 18 inches and it isn't the first time. I think I can do it myself by draining the pool, removing the liner (been there, done that too) and installing perforated or slotted pipe around the base of the walls, and connect them to more pipe running down to the deep end of the pool to collect in a sump installed below the base of the pool where it can be pumped out. Problem is, I have no idea what kinds of materials, valves, pumps, etc would be appropriate. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you.
Answer If this is not a regular occurrence you could pump the water out between the liner and the wall as we do this all the time but requires another pool pump and a flattened piece of 1 1/2 hard PVC about 4 feet long inserted between the liner and the wall in the shallow end with the water still in the pool simply pull a small section of liner out to do so. The water can be pumped back into the pool or to a ditch. The drainage you want to install would be done outside the pool deck about 4 feet deep not inside the pool unless you plan to redoe the pool floor. You could simply wait till the ground water goes away. Drainig the pool will allow even more ground water behind the liner which could tear out at the bottom drain. you would be better to add drainge pipe around the outside of the pool like they do around house foundations. If you have done this before why ask what to use? Personally I wouldn't remove the liner as getting it lined up again with returns and skimmer is difficult and a vinyl vac would be needed. How would you line up all the holes around the step? Heat up 1 1/2 hard PVC and flatten about 6 inches at one end, glue a 90 at other end and connect to a pump intake. You slide this pipe between liner and wall and can pump this water into the pool or to the street its clean water.
