Swimming Pool & Spa Construction & Maintenance - Commercial Pool Maintenance Fees

Expert: roger - 6/26/2009

Question
Roger,

I own a Commercial Lawn Care company in South Dakota.

One of my clients has a complex with 184 units and has asked
me to maintain his pool.

Since we do not have a pool service company in the area I
told him I'd be happy to research how to do it and help him.

What are some good resources for me to study and how do I
price my additional services?

Thank you,

Bob

Answer
Poolandspa.com has some info or Hayward site. Pool maintenance can become quite involved if he wants the equipment maintained as well. You will need to know how to test the water and what chemicals to add so you will need the water volume in the pool. Also you will be expected to vacuum the pool, clean skimmer and pump baskets. Is this a weekly or daily thing. Is there a robotic cleaner or automatic cleaner to put in when pool it is closed? Is it indoor or outdoor? Does it include a free unit. Is it chlorine, bromine or salt water. There may be lots of health regulations to learn. To better help you get me a list of all the equipment connected to the pool the brand and model labels on pump, filter, heater and sanitizer system. Do you have the time or desire to offer this service to others. The company I work for has one lady to do weekly maintenance on pools such as water chemistry and cleaning all other problems like lights, pumps, filters, cleaners, pool and plumbing leaks are sent to me. If nobody offers this service you could hire and train someone to clean pools. I know some old companies have been out there doing pools and I am considered an 8 year old rookie but my electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical and heater knowledge makes me an asset BUT everyday is still a learning process. I don't know it all but enjoy solving problems. So i have given you a list of things and questions to consider before accepting this task. Stay in touch Bob
