Question I just purchased a 10ft (circumference) by 30" high summer escapes easy set pool. The kind you blow up around the top where the ring is and then you simply add water and it raises until you see the water fill line.
I need to know what I should be doing to maintain it so that it can last a long time. It came with a type D filter pump and just put in a 1" chlorine tablet.
How long should I keep that pump running?
What chemicals should I add on a weekly basis?
I am basically a newb when it comes to pools, so I would like to obtain some type of schedule, instruction on how to keep this pool up and running. It's a great pool for my 2 little ones and I've even gotten in and if I sit on my bottom the water comes up to my neck line, so everyone can enjoy this little pool. Any advice will and would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards,
Jay
Answer I would start by getting a good quality floating chlorine dispenser that takes those tablets, one with a graduated barrel and lock ring like the ones used in hot tubs. Fill with pucks and float it in the pool when not in use, the Rainbow brand is a good one probably around $ 20. You can increase or decrease the chlorine easier with this. Next you need test strips for chlorine, PH and alkalinity and learn to read the colors. You need to keep alkalinity in line with alkalinity up as needed and a weekly shock with an oxidizer or liquid chlorine or bleach. Wash the filter cartridge weekly or bi weekly if used lots. You could probably get a timer that would allow you to run the pump twice a day for a 4 hour interval 12 hours apart. My suggestion is to find a local pool company your like and buy their chemicals and floater and bring in a water sample for testing and advice most pool companies give free advice and water tests but you got to get the chemicals there to support their advice and knowledge. I personally feel its the fair thing to do. A badly balanced pool will turn green or cloudy and a potential health hazard if bacteria is not killed and oxidized out. Enjoy your pool and hope you are a little more educated but do go to a pool company for additional support and questions I am sure you will have
