Swimming Pool & Spa Construction & Maintenance - Polaris Caretaker 5 port Valve

Expert: roger - 6/25/2009

Question
I am having same problem with my 5 port caretaker. I also installed rebuild kit, caretaker seemed to work for a few days, now is no longer working. Screen above caretaker is clean, no pressure relief valve in plumbing, Hayward sand filter has been backwashed. Main drain valve is completely open, skimmer valve is completely open (skimmer doesn't seem to be working very well either). What did responder mean when he said one of the valves was "torn", was he talking about the 5 plastic cylinders in the caretaker?

Answer
Personally I would plumb a three valve on the water to the pool to send water to the cleaner or returns like the skimmer main drain and adjust to control the pressure to the caretalker sending excess pressure to the returns. Make sure all nozzles are clean and good in the pool. If your skimmer isn't working well have it pressure tested for leaks.
