Swimming Pool & Spa Construction & Maintenance - Spa inoperative after prime

Expert: roger - 6/25/2009

Question
After the spa goes through the prime stage. The spa runs for a short time then shuts down with a topside reading of "dr" and/or "OHH". One of the 2-spd pumps does not run but has power. A new circ. pump, circuit board & heating element have been installed.

Answer
When the pump is done priming the circ pump must start before the heater comes on or you will get a dry or ohh error. I need more info as in spa make and I think you have Balboa Controller but verify for me. Being a new board I am inclined to jumper or switch settings on the board especially if all pumps worked before. So open up the controller and get the board type like M7 or something. I recently put a new board in a Bullfrog spa when pr ended the heater started to boil and the heater pump didn't start like it should have. Both jet pumps worked fine pressing buttons. I disconnected the heater and repeated the prime unplugged the two speed heater pump only to find 110 volts on low speed but 240 at heater turned out to be a low level configuration problem trying to turn on a non existent circ pump. So more info would help. Thanks
