Swimming Pool & Spa Construction & Maintenance - Our pool is always green

Expert: roger - 7/3/2009

Question
Hi, We have a pool that is 80 000 litres.  Since being opened it has been green...we've had the water tested.  Added calicum, alkanitiy, shock, stabilizer, and its as if we have never put anything in it.  Can't get it all vaccumed as we can't see what is in the bottom.  We are beyond frustrated, and not sure where to go from here.  We just moved into the home so its our first time with a pool...and this pool.

Answer
Finally a metric pool. Ok you added shock and stabilizer but you didn't mention the algaecide or chlorine pucks. New pool owners often get frustrated as water chemistry is tricky at times. When we sell a new pool we go over all this stuff with the new owner but since I am not there I don't know what filter you have or if its salt water or if you have an automatic chlorinator. If you get me that info we can better educate you. To start with all pools need a constant level of chlorine or bromine going into the pool or some other sanitizer. As the chlorine kills the bacteria its useable level decreases so we give it that weekly shock to burn off dead bacteria and allow our constant level to rejuvenate and become free chlorine again. The stabilizer is only there to keep the free chlorine from getting burned off by the sun. So we need to get chlorine flowing in your pool and you need to dump in an algaecide. If you can look into a what we call here is a Simplicity Kit for water chemistry. So get me any info you can thanks.
