Hi Craig.
I dont know if you deal with questions relating to Automatic Pool Cleaners. I dont know exactly which make i am using (Baracuda, Kreepy Krauly etc.)but the problem i am having is that it floats a little above the bottom of the pool. It doesnt make contact with the bottom therefor cannot move around the pool. Do you have any ideas as to what would cause it to sit suspended at what looks like about 3->5 inches above the bottom of the pool. Also, in the short periods where it is making contact with the bottom, and does move around the pool, it simply gets itself stuck at a certain point. Ive heard that is cases like this, when the pool cleaner has formed a pattern, one should add or remove one of the hoses. I have tried this, but all it does it makes a new pattern, and gets stuck in a different place. My pool is rectangular in shape, so there are no difficult corners or sharp turns that should make it get stuck all all the time. Thanks.

It is hard to provide a recommendation without knowing the exact brand/model. I would first figure out which cleaner you have.  I would then go to the manufacturers website and get a pdf of the installation manual.  The manual will give you precise settings for proper operation.  Sometimes a pool service will think they know how to install without following the manufacturers recommendation.  Make sure the floats are in their proper locations and the hose is at its proper length.  My guess is that they are too close to the cleaning unit causing the unit to float.

FYI...sometimes it is better to replace the unit than put money into it.  Parts can add up.  Plus you don't know when something else is going the break.
