Question Hi, I want to go visit a friend in Zurich and while I'm there I want to spend a week traveling around Switzerland. I was told to use their trains but everything I've looked at leads me to believe this is very expensive. Can I get a travel pass where I can take any train for a specific length of time (like a week)? How much would 1 week of traveling around Switzerland costs from Zurich? Am I better off finding an escorted tour company and going with them?
Answer Hi Laura
I came across a few good links that might be helpful to you in preparing to travel by train in Switzerland.
It seems that there are lots of special pricing structures for rail passes and some combine rail travel and hotels and sightseeing like this one offered by the Swiss Gov Tourist Site called My Switzerland: The Tops of Switzerland package offers 5 days of rail travel through the scenic trails of Switzerland and includes excursions to two mountain tops, the world famous Jungfraujoch and Mount Pilatus (also known as Dragon Mountain), plus four nights hotel accommodation in 3-star hotels. Cost $550 first class travel and 3 star hotel. http://traintickets.myswitzerland.com/us/index.htm
Please advise when you are planning to visit.
I will be checking out various travel pass possibilities for others who have asked about this. Can get back to you hopefully latest on Monday with info, after you let me know when you are travelling.
