Question
I have a Panasonic TV Model CT-20G5B connected to cable via a vcr. I do not have a remote and use the vcr to change channels. I currently only can get about 11 channels, nothing higher than 26. Is there a way to get more channels? Do I need to rent a cable box? I am sure the TV is not digital ready. Any suggestions other than throwing it out? The picture quality is fine with cable on the few channels that I do get.

Answer
The vcr may be on the wrong setting.

ONE: For example, there are two or three antenna settings in the vcr setup. The setup must be for cable setting as the channel numbers are different from broadcast numbers.

TWO:  Since you did not give me the model number of the vcr I cannot look up the procedure.  What you must do is get into the menu and go to the antenna settings and make sure it is set for cable use.  If it has auto scan use that feature and it will automatically select all signals present.

THREE: And, there is a possibility the cable company has lost the upper channels. If you have a second tv in the house check it for reception of all channels.

I had this exact thing happen to a friend and we found, after several hours of searching, the problem to be a faulty connection inside the cable wall outlet that was feeding the tv.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is more.

C

PS: You can purchase a universal remote that will operate either the tv or the vcr for $5 or so at most electronic stores.
