Subject: Taping VHS

Question
when I try to tape a tv show, my VCR will shut off after 5-6 minutes. It does it everytime. I can not tape anything. Help

Answer
There are many things that can cause this and I would need to know more about the symptoms and the make/model and age of the machine to give you a good answer, but here are some thoughts you can explore.

ONE:  Check the tapes you are using; all vhs tapes are not the same.

TWO:  Check the time recording settings; you may have it accidentally set for a 5 minute recording period.

THREE: Check the recording; you may have it on standby recording or pause not knowing and it times out after  a few minutes.

FOUR:  Of course, there may be  a defect with the machine internally that would require service.

FIVE:  There could be dirt on the tape guides that builds up and causes too much drag/friction causing it to dump out the recording.

Then, try www.fixer.com which has lots of suggestions.  Go to their database section and you can check your model for problem areas.

Let me know if you need more.
