Question My grandfather gave me a sanyo MTS tv, its huge and very heavy! We didn't have a remote so we purchase a Phillips 4 months ago and programed it. (I remember that it was hard to program then, do know what I pushed to get it to work but it did...Problem...my husband broke the remote. We have purchased 2 of the same, even a rca and can't get it to program! ugh!!! It is hooked up to a dvd player and will play dvds. One of the problems is we can't get it off of Video 1. When we use the codes to program the rca accepted a code yet no functions worked. Why is the dvd able to play yet we can't get our big 20 chanels of cable to come through? Also I have noticed that when it is in the menu screen it will scan through auto clock setting ( whatever that means) then goes back to Video 1. What I think is weird is on the menu screen items in yellow it will let me scroll through yet things like chanel serch ect are in red and it skips past any item in red? why are they a different color and because these seem to be locked out is that keeping me from programing. I think it is accepting the programing yet no functions are working!!!! It is our largest and nicest tv and we can only watch movies on it...thanks for the help!!!!
Answer Ugh! You didn't give me the model number of your Sanyo set. That would surely help as not all of them are the same.
However, most Sanyo sets require a remote with a button called input or at least one that functions for that. Pushing that button will cycle it through from tv to video1 to video2 and back, etc.
Here is one that does not require programming; it is already to go for a Sanyo tv:

Further, I have used the remote control sold at Dollar Tree stores (yes for $1.00) and it worked fine on two different Sanyo sets.
Finally, you may want to do a hard reset on the tv to make sure there are no corruptions in the controller system of the tv. Just unplug the power cord for 30 minutes and try it again.
HOpe it works for you.
