Question Hello I want to install a satelite tv at home in Thessaloniki, Greece. I particularly want to receive chanels from Norway, but also euronews, cnn etc.
They say that I need a big diameter for the scandinavian channels.
what would you suggest, as a cheap solution and what would the price be. it's ok if you give me the price that it would cost in the US just to get a rough idea. Thanks a lot
Answer Nikos
You come fron a lovely country, I JUST LOVE GREECE
Ans by the way I don't live in the states, never been there, I originally come from Egypt and currently living in Melbourne, AUSTRALIA
I haven't forgotten to answer your question :-)
Before going into your question let me add that I visited Thessaliniki some years back, I took the train from Athens, stopped in there and spent the night in the Youth hostels, then took the train to Italy then to France
I also visited Glifada and visited the islands.
Sorry about the lenghthy talk but I just happen to love your country (actually I am hoping to visit mount athos (not sure of the name) there is a monastery I read about.
Back to your question:
The satellite is usually beaming into a particular area on the map (called the Foot print) and it's exactly like holiding a Torch and shining the light onto some area, the more you move away from this area the leass light will fall upon it, in case of satellite you can compensate by using a bigger dish
What is equally important is the quality of the dish and the other components and the accuracy of alignement for the dish but also the quality of cables used and Receiver used (A channel Master or Paraclipse dish would be very effective while quality received on a same size dish of a lower quality Dish make would be much lower.
Nikos, what you need to do is read as much as you can on these two links I am attaching and before doing so you need to know what is the name of the satellites you are after (Is it Astra? HotBird? Eutelsat? etc.....)
I also suggest you talk to as many people involved in similar setups as possible before buying anything
GOOD LUCK
