Question Hi,
Just bought an old Panasonic receiver (it has an 8 track built into it) and hooked it up for my son to his Fisher turntable. The volume for the stereo is fine, but the volume for the turntable is very low. There is sound, but the volume can be turned up all the way and it is still not very loud. By the way, the volume control consists of four (two left and two right) levers on the receiver - appears a bit like a built in equalizer or something. Any input would be great. Thanks.
Answer Probably, the turntable is using a magnetic cartridge or one with a very low output voltage. The receiver may not have the appropriate preamp or it may have one and you are not connected to the correct input (it should be the "phono" input).
So, check the turntable for the kind of cartridge it is using and make sure you are going into the phono input..
Then let me know more and we can figure out what is going on.
