Topic: TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting

Subject: Samsung 60" inch TV

Question
My TV goes on and then a short time later shuts off, both green lights and red temp lights are blinking.  A siren type of noise is heard at that time.  After a while I can turn it on again but the same thing happens. The TV is 4 1/2 years old.  What do you think it is?

Answer
I assume it a RPTV?  (And not an LCD or Plasma set).

The high voltage has failed and needs repaired. The flyback will need replaced and probably the horizontal deflection amplifier output device.

Cost of repair will be about $200; maybe a little more.

Samsung is good stuff and the set is still relatively young so a repair would be in order. However, I recommend you take it to an authorized Samsung repair facility so they can advise you further as so many sets nowdays have engineering or technical bulletins out on them.  If you have the model number handy, call the Samsung technical line and ask them further, please.

Hope this helps.
