Expert: Allan Wainwright Date: 7/15/2008 Subject: problems with Sony rear projection tv
Question I have a Sony 51 inch projection tv that was manufactured in June 2002,Model# KP-51HW40. I think I have a problem with the red picture tube. When the screen is black, there are red horizontal lines on the screen. Sometimes when the tv warms up, the screen will go totally red and then the tv will shut itself down. I'm assuming this is a safety feature because you can turn the tv back on and it will play awhile and then shut itself down again. What do you think is causing this and is it a problem I can afford to fix? I paid a lot of money for this tv six years ago and can buy a better tv for a lot less now. Thank you for your help.
Answer this model is know for bad picture tubes. a cost to have one replaced will range around 600.00. the problem is on your model all three are known for going bad. so i am not sure i would tell you to have the one replaced.
good luck :)
