Subject: VCR - smeared image upper 1/3 screen
Question Old TV set (VCR connected to TV's arial jack):
With most video cassettes played on my VCR - double image occurs, both shifted to the right and smeared, only on the upper 1/3 of screen. No problem with DVD's, nor with some other video cassettes. The problematic cassettes are OK on other TV sets.
Thanks for your attention and good willing.
Answer It is the tracking adjustment or head alignmenet inside the vcr.
It requires either adjustment of the tracking (set should have a tracking control for user access) or the azimuth tracking of the playback head (technician only) or the playback rotating head may need replacement (technician only).
Bad news: Repair cost is more than cost of a new vcr. Most shops will no longer repair vcrs because they are too old and not worthy of the expense (unless it is a professional grade machine)
Good News; new vcr can be purchased for $30 and up - if you can find one!
