Question
My TV and DVR are high def.  A few days ago tv started cutting itself off then back on.  When connected to satellite receiver it went through all the reset (roughly about 15 minutes every 8 minutes)Spent an hour on the phone with DTV; changed the power strip, changed to previous Sat. receiver still doing it.  DTV tech scheduled for next Friday but when I decided to attempt to watch a DVD - tv still cutting off and on - green power button does not go off - and I'm now thinking it is TV not Receiver.  Can't get TV repairman till next Friday also.  Anything you can suggest I try?

Answer
It might correct itself with a hard reset.  Your owners manual may have a reset that can be initiated from the remote, but a good, hard reset is done by unplugging the power cord for a full 3 or 4 hours; then try it again.  If the problem was corrupted software codes the reset will restore everything to factory presets.

If the hard reset does not help, try the whack routine on it just for surety (it doesn't cost anything either, so worth a try). Just smack the set with your hand or fist in all the suspect places around the cabinet.  This will activate or reactivate any bad connections, corroded connector pins or cold solder joints - sometimes.

But, chances are you will need a tech to take a look inside to find out what has gone wrong with the controller IC circuit.

Hope this helps.  Let me know the outcome - I haven't seen this one before.
