Question
I like to leave the TV on for the dog when I leave for the day. I have always done this as did my Mom during my childhood.
She really likes Animal Planet :)
Anyway, I am wondering if there is any danger in leaving a regular tube TV on unattended.
Thanks so much!

Answer
Theoretically no problem.

However, there are a few matters to concern yourself with.

ONE:  At some point the set will wear out and quit working.  Leaving it on will accelerate its "end of life" point.

TWO:  Sometimes, even the very best of sets, will fail and can cause an electrical failure.   Most sets have protection circuits that shut the set off in case of dangerous failures; ones that could start a fire inside the set, for example.  There is a very small probability that your set would have a dangerous failure, maybe one chance in millions, but it is a possibility that you must keep in your mind.

THREE:  It is known that sometimes an animal left alone, if large enough, can knock the set off its table and cause a dangerous situation.  It is more often the case when the set is left on. Take the case when a program or commercial disturbs the animal and incites a jump or charge to the set.  So, make sure the tv is mounted such that it is impossible for the dog to knock it over.

FOUR:  With the set running for long hours it will run up your electric bill some.

Hope this will help.
