Question
Hello,

We have a Mitsubishi large screen T.V. Model #VS-50609.   We bought it new in 2003 and it's been moved a couple of times.  Right now, if a show has letters scrolling on the bottom of the t.v., the letters are blurry.  When we pull up our cable menu, we can hardly see it because everything is blurry.  It started just on the bottom of the t.v. but now the blurriness is making it's way up.  We are hoping this can be fixed and not that the t.v. is on it's last leg.

Thanks!

Answer
Without seeing the screen or a better explanation of what "blurriness" means I cannot give you a clear diagnosis.

If the blurriness is manifest by the colors looking like 3-D or like the colors are out of registration it is sign of bad convergence.

My suspicion is the convergence circuit is failing.  If so, it will cost around $300 to $400 for the repairs.

It could also be a problem with the liquid coolant in the covers over the projection tube(s).  This condition will produce a blurring in only the color of the projection tube that has the liquid cloudiness.  This can be checked by looking inside the set where you can see the front side of the projection tubes, but only a good tv tech can tell you for sure.  Replacing the coolant would cost less than the convergence problem.

Hope this helps.
