Question
This Big Screen was produce November 2003 and the model number is WS-65511.

MY big screen is not responding to the remote controls or the front panel controls.  There is a green light that is flashing for maybe one minute.  I have tried to reset the TV by using the system reset button and unplugging the TV set. I am still getting the flashing green light and  the TV will not power on  and there is no picture or sound.

Before this problem, the TV would turn itself off and after a few seconds, I could hit the power button and it would power on.  This would occur once in a blue moon.  Once in a month time.

Also, at times, the picture would scramble and when I power the TV off and then power the TV on, it would correct the problem.

When I look at the owner's guide, to review the troubleshooting the problem, its states that the AC line in power conditioner/ surge protection.

I want to know what is wrong with the TV before I attempt to repair it or how much it would cost to repair?
Thanks,

Charles

Answer
If you have a surge protector or any kind of line conditioner, remove it and try with direct power.  Usually, surge protectors are not much help and often create problems.

If the problem persists after removing any surge or line protector it may be the main power supply has gone bad.  It is common in all projector sets.  Repairs are often over $200 and the ailment can be from failure of the rectifiers, voltage regulators or sour (gassy) ripple filters. It will require a knowledgeable tech to get inside and take some voltage measurements to find out the exact location of the culprit.

Hope this helps.
