Subject: TV problem

Question
I have a 3yr old regular tv (regular as in not LCD/Plasma) and last night it shut itself off and will not turn back on.  Is it no good?

Answer
It depends on what has caused this problem.  Sometimes - not often - it is a minor problem and is corrected by just unplugging the power cord for a while.

But, most often it is caused by the set going into the protection mode. It can be a power supply failure, high voltage, deflection amplifiers or such systems are sections of the tv going bad.  If so, these can be very expensive to repair.

If the set is an expensive Sony or Panasonic it would be worth at least checking out the repair details. If an inexpensive model such as RCA, Sylvania, Magnavox, Philips and others it may be a better strategy to replace it.....

But, I can not give you a very precise reply without knowing the make and model and size because of the great variations in them.

So, let me know if you have further thoughts.
