Subject: Toshiba DVD/VCR
Question I have a 4year old Toshiba DVD/VCRplayer. It plays and records vhs tapes but only plays DVD's. When I put a disk in it goes to reading disk and the kicks it out saying disk error. I even tried to use a disk player cleaner and it does the same with it. All other parts of the unit work fine. Can you tell me whats up
Answer Without the model number of the machine I can only give you generic information.
The system is unable to recognize the presence of the dvd.
Most frequent cause of the symptoms you describe are 1) weak laser diode, 2) poor alignment of the optical pickup, 3) defective tracking system caused by bad IC and 4) dirt on the lens of the laser diode (which can be removed with a cotton q-tip).
Hope this helps. Let me know more if you have further questions.
