TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - Samsung HLR5667W DLP TV died

Expert: Allan Wainwright - 1/7/2009

Question
I have a Samsung HLR5667W DLP Tv that finally quit working.  The symtoms are:
had vertical and horizontal green lines.  I could see picture behind the lines.  These cleared up.
Then had video freezing up.  Sometimes audio would keep playing, sometimes it would freeze.  TV would seem to reset and return to normal.
Then Video would freeze and TV would shut down.
Finally the TV would not turn on.  Power goes to the lamp and it lights.  But screen remains black.  I hear some clicking and noises from TV like it is trying to start.  But it finally gives up and shuts down.

I believe it is the DMD board.  If you agree, then is there an inexpensive way to repair?  I see new DMD boards run about $500 on Samsung's parts web site.

If there is now inexpensive way to fix it, it there a place to sale the parts?

Answer
yes you are right it is the DMD board. it is cheaper to replace the whole optical engine. look here  http://www.tristatemodule.com/
should find a good price

Good luck :)
