Question QUESTION: I have a 42 in DLP HD Toshiba Television it was made in 2006 it is a rear facing projection tv model #42hm66. it will turn it self off and then the power light and lamp light will flash for 5 to 10 seconds and i can turn it back on, then it will turn itself back off in another 45 minutes
ANSWER: It will require some testing to be sure. But, I think it is a power supply failure. It will require replacement of one or two electrolytic ripple reducer capacitors. The cost of repair will be around $200, but some shops will say you need a new power supply to plug as a replacement at a huge cost of around $350, so please don't let them do that.
---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------
QUESTION: my television now takes awhile to turn on, and when it does turn on there is a horrible noise for about 5 minutes, and it takes awhile for the color to focus then it is fine, for a couple of hours then it turns itself off, and i have to repeat the whole process
Answer These symptoms are more serious. Since it is a DLP you will need to check the lamp assembly carefully and determine if it is installed properly; follow the procedures in the owners manual very carfully to determine it is installed correctly (in your case reinstalled correctly).
The video engine is also a critical matter in all DLP sets. If it goes bad strange symptoms can result. Replacment and/or repair of the engine is very expensive. I suggest you consult with a reputable Toshiba authorized service facility for this level of investigation.
You can find the Toshiba service number in your manual. Or, go to NESDA for relibale service shops also:

Hoping for the best.
