Question I have a 6 year old 46" rear projection Hitachi model 46FS500 that was working fine and suddenly today has double picture color in some areas and a swoop like wave at the top that is green/purple etc. the center section seems to be somewhat normal but the top and bottom are warped. We tried to use the magic focus button more than once but the green section is also warped. What would cause this
Answer Doryta,
As my profile reflects, I do not work on projection TV's, but I do know what is going on with your set. In the bottom of your set, you have 3 picture tubes, red, green, and blue, one for each of the primary colors of light. Each projects it's component of the complete color picture to a mirror on the back of your set, and then onto the screen that you watch. There is a circuit that causes these 3 images to align, or CONVERGE into the one full color image you see. Your convergence circuit has some kind of defect. The best analogy I can give you as to why your magic focus doesn't work is that of a stereo with one channel shorted out. It won't matter where you set the volume and tone controls to. Until you repair the amplifier, it will not be able to respond. Likewise in your TV, until you have the convergence amplifier repaired, your magic focus will not be able to respond. In our service center, the average repair runs from $200 to $400
regards,
Rick
