QUESTION: My husband and I just got this tv from a neighbor, but we were told a bulb went out. The problem is that neither one of us has seen a tv with a bulb out, and I can not find a replacement bulb for this either. The picture is double and is red and green. Do you by any chance know how we might go about fixing this problem? Thanks

ANSWER: Tiffany,
Let me start by reminding you that this is a projection TV, and as I stated in my profile, I do not work on projection TV's. From your description though, I do know what your problem is. Although there are TV's that use lamps for projecting the image onto the screen, your model is not one of them. Your set has 3 picture tubes, one for each of the 3 primary colors of light, red, green, and blue. Each one projects it's component of the complete color picture to a mirror on the back of the set, then onto the screen that you watch. There is a circuit that causes the 3 images to align, or CONVERGE into the single image you see. There is a defect in your convergence amplifier. The best analogy I can give you is if you had a stereo with one channel shorted out. It wouldn't matter where you set the volume or tone controls. Until the amplifier is repaired, you will not get any sound. Likewise, with your projection TV, until you have the convergence amplifier repaired, the images will not be able to align. In our service center, this usually runs between $200 and $400 to repair.

QUESTION: Sorry, it was late last night, and I just picked a name. I can not really find anything out about this tv though, so I am not sure what part I need.Would this part work STK392-120? If you don't know that's fine, I will then try to ask someone else. Thank You Tiffany

Yes, STK392-120 are the convergence drive IC's in your set. If you attempt this yourself, I strongly urge you to also carefully check all fuses on the convergence board, as well as all low value resistors going directly to the convergence IC's. Any that you miss can and will cause the new convergence IC's to short out immediately upon turning the set on. Furthermore, there are two of the STK392-120 IC's in your set. They should ALWAYS be replaced as a pair.
