TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - Philips 9p5544c102 solid green power led but no audio/video
Expert: Rick Montgomery - 11/4/2009
Question Hi Rick, I'm sorry to ask another TV related question. Perhaps you can point me in the right direction.
I picked up a 2000 55" Philips/Magnavox set. It powers on the green led on the front panel but doesn't come alive. I've tried the hard reset. I've looked hard for bulging or bad caps and fried components and found nothing. I don't even hear the flyback charge. No sound at all and the guns aren't firing. I did notice a mild charge on two of the mosfet heatsinks on the right side of the power supply board near the power cord.
I've been through a million posts on blinking indicator lights, convergence chips replacement, etc but have yet to find someone with a set that isn't going into protection and lights solid green doesn't shut itself down or blink.
I have experience in soldering/desoldering. I have digital meters, soldering equipment, and time. Any help you can give me would be fantastic. Thanks for your time Rick.

Answer Scott,
I'm sorry, but I just don't work on projection TV's at all. Any advice I have given has been purely based on little odds and ends I have picked up from the technicians that do work on them. I have asked a friend, and his only reply was that you probably have either a defective SSB (Small Signal Board) or LSB (Large Signal Board), but he does not have the time to devote to sites like this and assist in point to point troubleshooting. The part number fore the LSB is 00APD028C003, and if you contact a facility that rebuilds them, such as PTS or Tri-State Module, you should be able to get it for under $175. The SSB is part # 00ASG061C003, and should be between $200 and $250. I don't know how you would differentiate between the two as to which one you need, or both. For that you will have to contact a qualified Projection TV Technician.
I'm sorry, but except for the parts research, I cannot provide you any additional help with this. It's just outside of my line of expertise, which is a shame, since you are one of the few I have helped that has tools, test equipment, and know-how.
regards,
Rick
