Question I TOOK MY 50'' PLASMA TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID MY POWER SUPPLY WAS BOD.THEY CHARGE ME AROUND 350 FOR JUST THE POWER SUPPLY AND ABOUT 200 FOR INSTALLATION.MY QUESTION IS IS IT THAT DIFFICULT TO INSTALL OR IS IT JUST PLUG AND PLAY?I AM PRETTY MECHANICAL INKLINE AND I REALLY DO THINK ITS A COUPLE OF CAPACITORS THAT ARE BAD BUT NOT SURE ANY SUGESTIONS THAT COULD HELP.THANKS THE MODLE IS 50PC1DR AND THE POWER SUPPLY IS EAY32957901.THANX
Answer Ivan,
Let me begin by thanking you for supplying the model number AND power supply part number. I wish that everyone was as helpful.
The LG 50PC1DR has a history of power supply problems, but unfortunately they are not all the same. One very common problem I have seen is 2 2200 MFD 10 volt capacitors on the power supply board. They will be vented if this is the problem. A vented electrolytic capacitor is one in which the electrolyte has boiled, usually from over-voltage such as line fluctuation resulting in a power surge. The tops of these capacitors will be bulging, or already burst, with the dark electrolyte seeping out. If this is what you find, replace them with 16 volt , 105 degree capacitors, and it should resolve the issue. You will have to remove the power supply module in order to do this. It takes 1/2 dozen screws and 1/2 dozen connectors to remove it, which you will have to do whether you repair or replace it. A word of caution though, place the set face-down on a table, with a blanket between the display and the table.Good luck.
regards,
Rick
