Question I have a RCA HD TV model # HD52W59 it's about 3years old. The other night while watch it the picture got darker and than went black. The sound is fine just no picture. I can turn it off for awhile and when i turn it back on it's fine for about 30minutes and than the same thing happens. Can you Help me?
Answer The loss of picture and raster is most often associated with high voltage failure. The high voltage circuit is driven by the horizontal output amplifier/transistor or module. Thus, the repair will involve the high voltage flyback transformer and/or the horizontal output. Most often they are both replaced at the same time. The repair cost can be over $200.
Unless you have extended warranty coverage the manufacturers warranty has expired and the cost of repair will be from your own pocket!
It can also be from bad video processing but in this case the raster will remain but just no video being modulated onto the raster screen. But, either way, the cost of repair is going to be about the same.
That's the news. Hope this helps you decide what to do.
