Question
QUESTION: I have a Sony LCD TV, model number KDF-42WE655. When I turned on the TV this morning the green light flash then the red light flashes on and off several times. I never received a picture and I have tried to reset it by unplugging it and even tried another plug. I am wondering If it is something minor that someone can talk me through or do I have to send it to a shop.

ANSWER: Shawnkiea,
Most likely you will need a Service Center. You have given me only half the information I need to tell you what is going on with your set. When something goes wrong in a Sony TV that either causes an incident of shutdown, or prevents the set from coming on at all, it registers in the memory, and displays a specific error code that will point to the circuit at fault. When the display cannot come up, the error code is displayed in the form of a blinking of the power LED (the red blinking light you see). It will blink a specific number of times, then pause and repeat. Check and let me know the number of blinks. Also, please give me the serial number off the back. it will be 7 digits long, all digits.
regards,
Rick

QUESTION: I counted the blinks and when I first try to turn it on it blinks green 3 times and pause, then it start to blink red 3 times before it pauses and start to blink red again. The serial number on it is 8024691 thank you for all your support.

Answer
Shawnkiea,
OK, 3 blinks in this model is an error that the lamp cover is not activating the lamp door switch properly, OR the lamp itself is not properly seated. We have seen everything from simply pulling out and reseating the lamp and lamp door resolve this issue, to actually having to replace the lamp and lamp door switches due to the heat of the lamp softening the plastic parts of the switch(s) and allowing them to distort, to the heat from the lamp actually melting and distorting the lamp door so it cannot push the safety switch. You will need to pay close attention to the door and light tunnel parts. They should all be a uniform gray color. Any brown discoloration is an indication that distortion of the plastic probably occurred.
I hope this helps you.
regards,
Rick
