TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - Toshiba TV

Expert: Rick Montgomery - 11/8/2009

Question
I have a Toshiba 61A61 projection TV thats about 8 years old. It will not respond to any remote. I tried 3 different ones.

Answer
John,
As my profile reflects, I do not work on projection TV's, but I may be able to advise you somewhat on this. For starters, I am intrigued that you tried 3 different remotes, and would have to ask the first most obvious question, are any of the 3 remotes the original factory remote that came with the set?
If not, I could not say if it should or should not work. Remotes are unique in the signals they put out.
Are the batteries known to be good, AND installed properly? Sometimes people inadvertently put one or more in the battery compartment backwards.
Are the remotes putting out a signal? You can easily determine this by hold the remote a few inches in front of any camcorder, digital camera or camera phone. When you push any of the remote buttons, it should show up as a pulsating light blue light in the camera's viewfinder.
If at least one remote is the FACTORY-ORIGINAL, and ALL the batteries are known good, and installed correctly, and you determine that the remote is putting out a signal, then you probably have a defective Infrared detector inn your TV.
Hope this helps you.
regards,
Rick
