TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - mitsubishi cs-35303

Expert: Rick Montgomery - 11/8/2009

Question
QUESTION: I have a mitsubishi cs-35303 1995 era 36 inch and all at once the picture turned red and a soft or fuzzy effect. You can still see the picture but looks like your watching with red sunglasses. Also made a click sound.

ANSWER: Mike,
This will either be a picture tube or a picture tube drive circuit. It will require component level testing, voltage checks and a CRT tester. Do you have technical skills? Tools and test equipment? Soldering equipment and skills?
Let me know.
regards,
Rick

QUESTION: No,I don't know anything about TV,S (I work with wood). I called a TV repair shop and they told me to call the tech back on monday, give him the model of TV and he could tell me if it is worth fixing. thanks for your speedy response.   Mike

Answer
Mike,
I hope your experience with your Service Center is a good one. I want you to evaluate the picture quality before the set went out. Were you happy with it? Were all the colors correct, or was the picture tinted purplish or greenish? If it had a discoloration, the picture tube would definitely be suspect. Consider these things before you approve any estimate.
Good luck,
regards,
Rick
