Question
Hi i have a Toshiba 42wt29b rear projection TV
whilst watching it the other day the screen went off but the standby light was on buttons on remote did not work i powered it off using power button and switched it on again immediately it did not come back on
switched it off and left it for 15 mins powered back on and worked for the rest of the day this has happened on quite a few occasions now do you have any advice on what the cause could be any help would be great regards Mick

Answer
There are many possible causes for these symptoms and it requires testing to be sure. However, most often it is related to the power supply.  One of the most common component failures are the electrolytic capacitors which have the shortest life of just about any of the thousands of components in the tv.  They are not expensive to replace, but the labor is high so expect, when the tv fails totally, to pay $200 or more for the repair.

Hope this helps.
