TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting/Resetting possible?

Question
Last night lightening struck a tree outside and we think it came though the lines and did something to our TV. We have a Toshiba CX36H60 and now cannot get anything except the red power light comes on. When I unplugged it for a while and then plugged it back it and hit the power button, I hear a clicking noise and the red light comes on, but the screen is pitch black. Can the set be reset or was it fried, please?

Hello Mark,

You may have a blown fuse in the TV. First I would try to see if this were true by opening the back of the TV and looking at the fuse and seeing if it is blown or not. If it is try to change it out with the same amperage and voltage level. If this works your problem is solved. If the fuse blows again or if the TV does not come on then the power supply may be damaged. I would suggest that you have a TV repair Technician examine and repair this TV.

The simple answer to your question is this is not an issue of resetting the TV, electrical damage has been done and a TV repair technician is needed to analyze and repair this problem.

I am now working full time in the TV repair industry until I can find another full time job, I know what your question is: "why don't you just work full time in the TV repair industry permanently?" Well the answer to that is simple, due to the complexity and the DIY craze, TV repair work is at best a good way to make extra money, not to rely on it for your livelihood. A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.
