TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - TV converter box

Expert: cleggsan - 7/5/2009

Question
I Bought a zenith dtt901 box and when I connected it to the TV I get absolutely nothing

Answer
There may not be a strong enough signal to get you over the digital cliff.  The antenna must be strong enough to bring in a signal of sufficient strength to lock up the digital receiver circuits in the converter box.  Unlike analog which gives some signal, even if noisy and snowy, as the signal strength gets weaker, the digital works totally good right out to the edge, then drops off instantly.

Therefore, take a look at the help pages at:

http://www.dtv.gov/fixreception.html

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/engineering/maps/

If your broadcaster is distant you may need a special antenna with much higher gain. Or, you may have to install the antenna in the attic or on the roof.

If you cannot get signal after considering the above, let me know more and we can go to the next step.  Let me know the outcome.

c

PS: Make sure the unit is working properly and make sure you go through the channel scan.  The scan is required before you know if there are any signals in the reception range.
