About Henry A. McKelvey Expertise I have worked in the Electronics field for 25 years, and have been a Telecommunications Expert for 20 years. My Expertise has been in: Video, Audio, RF, Television, and Stereo. I have been in the Television repair business for 25 years and have repaired over 20,000 Televisions in that time. I was a manager of an Information Technology Training Team at The Verizon Advanced Services Group Center, and a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Verizon Laboratories. I am now working full time in the TV repair industry until I can find another full time job, I know what your question is: "why don't you just work full time in the TV repair industry permanently?" Well the answer to that is simple, due to the complexity and the DIY craze, TV repair work is at best a good way to make extra money, not to rely on it for your livelihood. A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.

Question One night the electric went out, when it came back on i turned on the televison. Which is an rca 56 or 65 floor model number is 52w59. Well, after turning the set on it went on and off by itself a couple of times and when it came back on by itself for the third time, it had a black line on the top and one on the bottom and the picture wasn't right, so i shut it back off. My husband bought it at walmart on sale, and they had said it had already been fixed. So, my question to you is do you think it will cost over 200 to fix it? If so, we will junk it and go look for another. Thank you for your time in answering this question. Sandy
Answer Hello Mrs. Pekarski,
It sounds like you are describing a vertical deflection problem but your statement of "and the picture wasn't right". makes me also think that this could be a convergence problem, OK so I'll answer both.
For the deflection problem I would think that the vertical deflection drivers and the final vertical amplifier should be checked by a qualified TV repair Technician.
For the convergence problem this may be a case of having to have the two convergence amplifiers and their biasing resistors changed out. This should be done by a qualified TV repair Technician.
