I have worked in the Electronics field for 25 years, and have been a Telecommunications Expert for 20 years. My Expertise has been in: Video, Audio, RF, Television, and Stereo. I have been in the Television repair business for 25 years and have repaired over 20,000 Televisions in that time. I was a manager of an Information Technology Training Team at The Verizon Advanced Services Group Center, and a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Verizon Laboratories. I am now working full time in the TV repair industry until I can find another full time job, I know what your question is: "why don't you just work full time in the TV repair industry permanently?" Well the answer to that is simple, due to the complexity and the DIY craze, TV repair work is at best a good way to make extra money, not to rely on it for your livelihood. A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.

Question
Hi,
I just set up my brand new Panasonic 42" PG10 series plasma television with a Panasonic home theatre system.  Everything works well with the exception that when I'm in Veira Cast mode I can't get sound through my theatre system, only through the television.  I have it hooked up with a HDMI cable, and reading through the troubleshooting sections in the manuals don't seem to address this particular problem.  I'm wondering if I need to run an optical audio cable with the HDMI or am I missing something. (by the way, I don't have cable or dish yet so that's why Veira Cast is the only way I have to test the sound coming from the set.  the theatre system works fine on DVD's and tuner mode.)

Hello Nate,

The HDMI should be all you need. This tells me that what ever is processing the audio while in Veria Link mode is not working. Try running the audio cable to see if there is any audio. in addition check to make sure that the audio feed to the Home theater system (HTS)is working to. This might be a point also; what cables are feeding your HTS are they coming from the TV's audio out. If they are I would suggest that you check your settings and make sure the TV's audio out jacks are turned on.
