I have worked in the Electronics field for 25 years, and have been a Telecommunications Expert for 20 years. My Expertise has been in: Video, Audio, RF, Television, and Stereo. I have been in the Television repair business for 25 years and have repaired over 20,000 Televisions in that time. I was a manager of an Information Technology Training Team at The Verizon Advanced Services Group Center, and a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Verizon Laboratories. I am now working full time in the TV repair industry until I can find another full time job, I know what your question is: "why don't you just work full time in the TV repair industry permanently?" Well the answer to that is simple, due to the complexity and the DIY craze, TV repair work is at best a good way to make extra money, not to rely on it for your livelihood. A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.

TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting - No sound from speakers

Question
Hi,

I am installing a Denon AVR-1609 receiver and I am not getting sound from the speakers.  Everything seems to be connected as instructed and the speakers' volume of white noise increases/decreases as I turn the volume up/down, but no music comes out. This is happening across all inputs, so my thought is that the problem can only be signal to the speakers or some setting in the system that I am unfamiliar with.  Also, I don't know if it matters, but "Analog" is also displayed on the front screen.

Can you please give me advice on what the problem could be, or how I might go about narrowing possibilities?

Hello Tony,

What audio outputs are you using.

Most TVs now have Analog and Digital audio outputs. It appears that you have analog set on your Home Theater System (HTS). Using your Owners manual set the audio input to digital and see if that works also check the TV  to see if the analog audio or the digital audio is turned on(this can be done from the menu).
