Question
I have done some tv repair. I just got a older mitsubishi cs-3535r. When i got it it would not work. After  week i plugged it in and it worked fine. The next day i took it to our camp and it was fine for 3 days. then I unplugged it and plugged back in and you hear a click but no picture. after about an hour i tryed it again and it was working again. I unplugged it again and the same thing you hear it click but no picture. could this be a power supply. if not what could  i check.

Answer
Hello Ron,

This is a power supply issue, and it is hard to nail down because this power supply is exposed to most of the circuits in the TV unlike TVs now that have a main power supply and a switching power supply that are technically isolated from each other. You power supply is being shut down by a shut down circuit which is sensing high current events. In your case most likely an increase in current in the high voltage section. I would check the horizontal output transistor, the flyback transformer, and the HV safety capacitor.

These are the usual problem in these sets. Also do the standard checks to

1) fuses

2) open or shorted diodes

3) open or shorted transformers

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

I have worked in the Electronics field for 25 years, and have been a Telecommunications Expert for 20 years. My Expertise has been in: Video, Audio, RF, Television, and Stereo. I have been in the Television repair business for 25 years and have repaired over 20,000 Televisions in that time. I was a manager of an Information Technology Training Team at The Verizon Advanced Services Group Center, and a Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Verizon Laboratories. I am now working full time in the TV repair industry until I can find another full time job, I know what your question is: "why don't you just work full time in the TV repair industry permanently?" Well the answer to that is simple, due to the complexity and the DIY craze, TV repair work is at best a good way to make extra money, not to rely on it for your livelihood. A sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.
