Expert: Nagy George Date: 1/17/2007 Subject: Hitachi 51S500 proj and an upconvert dvd
Question Hi,
I have a 51" Hitachi 51S500 RPTV and it only has a dvi input. I hooked a Toshiba upconverting dvd player to it via a hdmi to dvi adapter. The picture i am getting is worse than the progressive scan player I had before. The blacks look like they are almost crayon, the other colors seem fine. I tried it at 480p, 720p, and 1080i, all the same picture.
Any ideas?
Can you watch an upconverting dvd player using component cables, or is it only the hdmi?
Thx,
Jim
Answer Jim,
I do not think I can help you, although I have read about HDMI and previously used DVi but still haven't used the converters.
As in upscaling, some AV receivers use upscaling so that the final output is in component even if some of the inputs are not and they work fine.
