TV/VCR/Stereo Troubleshooting/Magnavox

Question
My elderly mother has a Magnavox TV Model # MS3250
C121 - Serial # 62354752 - Manufactured March '02
About a year ago it was turning itself off, but was still under warr. and the Sears rep. fixed it by adjusting the voltage regulator (I think).
Now it will not respond to any remote commands; first the voluume control went and it is stuck on the A/V screen currently. She no longer has a picture. This is a sad thing as she has had two other Magnavox TV's last her lifetime and she insisted on getting another not knowing the junk they have become and of course the warranty is over. Is there any hope for this TV? What's our next move? Hard reset? Double hard reset?
Please help! TIA!

Answer
I would have to know more to give you a fair idea.  For example, can you move it out of a/v from the front panel? Does it work when a vcr or dvd is played through that a/v input?

Yes, do a hard reset.

Also, give it the whacking routine to see if some loose wire or cold solder joint is acting up.

Yes, the Magnavox sets of yesteryear were fine products.  Today they are made by a totally different company and they have not been as good.

So, check the operation with the front panel; if it seems to be okey, it may be the remote needs to be replaced.  Or, if the set is definitely defective, it may need a good tv tech to look at it.  It is new enough that it should be worth a low cost repair.  If it is just the remote receiver module inside the tv that is defective the cost of repair is not so steep; maybe under $100.

Let me know if you need more.

Cordially,
